Why Use Flea and Tick Prevention?

Please remember to purchase flea and tick preventative for your pets this summer. Fleas and ticks are blood-sucking parasites that are capable of causing anemia in pets, parasidic infestations and zoonotic diseases.  It is easy to prevent these health risks - apply a monthly preventative to your pet.

What is a Pet I.D Microchip?

This “high tech” mechanism is a tiny computer chip, encapsulated within bio-compatible material, which is programmed with an identification number. This chip is small enough to fit into a hypodermic needle, which is used to inject the microchip under the skin of your pet.

The procedure is no more painful or complicated than a vaccination injection and the microchip lasts the life of your pet.The identification number programmed into the microchip is registered with a national tracking database system that can provide your name, address and telephone number. When receiving a lost pet, a shelter, humane society, or veterinarian use a special hand held scanner to detect and read the microchip. The identification number enables the owner to be found 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Pet collars with I.D tags are important identification tools as well; however if your pet is on the loose from home, it runs a much greater risk of being separated from the collar and consequently, has no means of identification. A Pet I.D Microchip is a permanent and will not fade or become lost.

During the recent tornadoes in our area, pets with a microchip were reunited faster with their owner.  If you are interested in having a microchip implanted on your pet or if you have questions about this procedure, please contact us at Pleasant Grove Veterinary Clinic.
